NCN SONATA BIS Grant for Dr Joanna Różyńska

Ladies and Gentlemen,

we are pleased to announce that since January this year, Dr Joanna Różyńska of our Center has been carrying out a research grant funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) under the SONATA BIS 13 call, entitled “The right to bodily and mental integrity in the era of biomedicine and neurotechnologies - an integrative bioethical analysis”.

The project concerns the right to bodily and mental integrity in an era of rapid development of the biomedical sciences and neurotechnology. Its aim is to examine the content, moral justification, strength and scope of the right to bodily integrity and the right to mental integrity, and to determine whether it is possible to develop an integrated, conceptually coherent, ethically adequate and practically applicable concept of a right to psychophysical integrity. The project comprises conceptual and normative analyses, as well as analyses of lived-experience testimonies of people affected by various physical illnesses or mental disorders. It relies primarily on the methods of philosophical analysis and, in a supporting role, on the methods of legal scholarship. The project focuses on the moral right to personal integrity, not on the legal right.
